# AI Companion

All your information via chat agent

## User Guide

The [AI Companion](https://dev.fieldworker.ai/ai-assistant) is FieldWorker’s newly integrated intelligent assistant, designed specifically to reduce administrative burden and accelerate clinical documentation. By parsing through your active caseload, the AI Companion provides immediate insights, summaries, and analysis, allowing you to focus more time on patient care and less on manual chart reviews.

### 1. Interface Overview

Located at the bottom of the global left sidebar, the [AI Companion](https://dev.fieldworker.ai/ai-assistant) opens into a clean, focused, distraction-free workspace.

#### The Welcome Dashboard

* Personalized Greeting: The system recognizes the logged-in user (e.g., *Hi Sami Smithh*) to ensure all insights generated are securely scoped to that user's specific assigned patients and permissions.
* The Action Cards: Three prominent shortcut cards sit in the center of the screen, offering one-click access to the most common clinical queries.
* The Command Prompt: The "Ask AI Companion..." input box allows for free-text, natural language queries for custom requests that fall outside the pre-built action cards.
* Compliance Footer: A persistent reminder stating, *"AI Companion assists with patient care and case documentation. Always verify clinical information."* This ensures users remember that AI acts as a co-pilot, not a replacement for professional clinical judgment.

### 2. Core Capabilities: The Action Cards

To help users instantly generate the most requested data without needing to write complex prompts, the interface features three primary workflow shortcuts:

#### 📝 Summarize Patient Cases

* Function: Generates a consolidated summary across all of your active patients.
* Use Case: Ideal for the start of a shift or Monday mornings. Instead of opening ten different patient profiles to catch up, one click provides a high-level briefing of your entire active roster, flagging any major updates or pending items.

#### 📊 Review Encounters

* Function: Analyzes patient visits and encounters from last week and this week.
* Use Case: Perfect for billing verification, EVV audit prep, or weekly reporting. The AI compiles a structured breakdown of who was seen, when, and by whom, ensuring you have a clear picture of recent and upcoming care delivery.

#### 🩹 Clinical Highlights

* Function: Reviews assessments and clinical notes from last week and this week.
* Use Case: Designed for clinical continuity. If a patient is being transitioned to another provider or you are prepping for a case conference, this feature extracts the most vital clinical data (changes in condition, new observations, updated assessments) from dense case notes.

### 3. Core Workflows: How to Use the AI Companion

#### Using Quick Actions

1. Navigate to the AI Companion module from the left sidebar.
2. Review the three action cards in the center of the screen.
3. Click directly on the card that fits your current need (e.g., Clinical Highlights).
4. The AI will process the request and output a structured response in the chat interface below.

#### Using Custom Queries

If the quick-action cards do not cover your specific need, use the natural language prompt:

1. Click into the "Ask AI Companion..." input box.
2. Type a specific, detailed query.

   * *Example 1 (Specific Patient):* "Summarize the last three case notes for patient John Doe regarding his physical therapy progress."
   * *Example 2 (Task Management):* "List all patients who missed an encounter last week."

3. Click the Send Arrow (or hit Enter) to submit the query.
4. Review the AI-generated response.

### 4. Best Practices & Guardrails

To get the most out of the AI Companion while maintaining data integrity and compliance, follow these guidelines:

* **Be Specific**: When using the free-text prompt, include timeframes, specific data types, or exact patient names to get the most accurate results.
* **Treat as a Draft**: The AI is highly capable of parsing data, but it is a tool for *assistance*. You must review and verify all generated summaries or clinical highlights against the source documents before using them in official legal or medical reports.
* **Scope of Knowledge**: The AI Companion is strictly constrained to work on the data within your agency's FieldWorker ecosystem. It cannot browse the external internet or provide general medical advice outside the scope of the documented case notes.
